What oil in 88 T2 trans?

I got a slight grind when going into 5th really fast. If I go slow, it goes no problem. I put the regular 90w int here, but someone told me thats too thick. Just wanna confirm... anyone know the facts

It's not an FD trans, is it?

Nah, not a clue...

Wait, is it "GL-4" rated or specifically said okay for synchromesh transmissions?&nbsp Or is it just gear oil with the nasty sulfer smell?

The grinding is a syncro going bad....

But, it's REALLY unusual that it's only when going into 5th. Usually from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th, or downshifting from 4th to 3rd, the transitions shifts that get used the most.

If this just started when you changed tranny oil, then this is one of those things that make you go hmmmmm.

Sulfer smell, yeah, sounds like GL5. Try draining and refulling with a GOOD synthetic. NOT Mobil 1!! Use Royal Purple, Red Line. Do a search. Many threads on the sythetic tranny fluids. On forum member that had great insight was Icemark. Maybe PM him.

Good luck.

IMHO, Redline MT90 manual gearoil works best.

Also, bleed your clutch and adjust your clutch pedal. Check/replace your shifter bushings.

Im gonna try something like that, some kinda synthetic in it...

The clutch slave and master are new... The clutch is a 4 puck ceramic cluth. The shifter bushings are new... I went all through this car, before releasing terror on the streets again... See sig for any more mod info.

This is not good - does it say "GL-4 rated" or okay for use in transmissions?

Regular gear oil is not good for a transmission...

For some reason, FD owners have trouble shifting from 2nd to 5th?
