its a 91 S5 its not a third gen... thats why i posted in the second gen... but its the solenoid valve thats in the fuel and emissions control part of the FSM, i read the FSM and its confusing as hell for that part, and i figured this is something that one of you have most likely dealt with so im asking.... does anyone know how to replace this?

Go to a junkyard. Pick any solenoid valve from the vac rac (they are all the same.) Replace the bad one with the one from the junkyard.

From your other thread:

*****i ran my codes and i got numbers

30, 33, 38, and 40

all solenoid valve problems

30 is split air bypass
33 is port air bypass
38 is accelerated warm-up system
and 40 is purge control
********************************

The Split Air and Port air solenoids are on the ACV. That's two.

The AWS is a bit different in shape and form than those first two.

A 93 RX has a Purge control solenod, if that helps. A series five??? Don't think so. Maybe, just maybe the codes your reading are being read wrong??? As in from the wrong manual???? Maybe?
Purge Control I'm not familar with. I suppose it's one of the common plastic ones with two vacuum hose/air hose going to it.

Here's what I think>>>>>>>.they are not bad. Most likely someone removed the ACV which did away with the first two. Then they removed the AWS one because they didn't like the 3000 rpm on startup or?????? And the Purge got removed because .......well I've not a clue why.

So to make life easy, go look and see it the ACV is on the engine and if both electrical plugs are connected to it. Then write back.

They've either been removed or the elect plugs are off them. They don't fail.

40 is most likely Aux Port Solenoid.

would these solenoids in question have anything to do with the car not staying running?

No. They are all emissions related and have nadda to do with the idling of the engine.

There is no code 40 for FC's. This is for an FD! Like I said in his other thread, this should be in the 3rd Gen section

No, he has a S5 N/A that he has bolted on a turbo to. His profile is wrong. He has been emailing me for tech advise.

Don't you love it when people can't be bothered to tell you what their car is when they ask for help...

or list the mods.

The real problem is that the car stops running after 10-20 minutes, then will not start again until it has cooled down. None, of which is solenoid related. He said the the check engine light comes on, so I told him to pull the codes.

Codes ain't a gonna help on this car. Turbo on a n/a almost always means the ACV has been removed. AWS is almost always removed, and the XXXXXXNest is almost always removed along with the auxillary ports themselves. So ..........look for another thing to be causing your *not stay running* condition.

Not stay running.......could be a number or things. BAC could have been removed when doing the other removals? Large air leak. What vacuum lines left installed on the wrong attach points of the engine. OH. Using a n/a pressure/boost sensor in conjunction with a Turbo ECU............or....other stuff. Like timing, wrong injectors......stuff.

I had fun looking thru the 95 FSM to see it it uses a Purge Control Solenoid. Does. You must be looking at the wrong codes for your car. Not that it mattered in the long run because the only one diff was that Purge vs the Aux solenoid.

Gotta get off here and make me some saw horses.
