jspec engine start up??
Hi i bought a j spec TII engine and i was wondering if there was anything i should put in the engine to soften the seals before i try and start it... I was reading a thread a while back and i am pretty sure that someone said something about using ATF but im not sure.

if i remember correctly with the atf trick you let it sit for 24hours and then start it and watch the white smoke pour out from your exhaust lol. we did it on my friends TII.

pull your trailing spark plugs and rotate your engine if you hear all the seals you dont have to atf it. if you have the loot i would rebuild it and then you know for sure what you have.

if you search the ATF trick is a last resort type option not something you should just do. why are you doing this anyway? jspec motors are garbage and need to be rebuilt

.......not 100% true..... MOST j-spec motors are no good but if you go through somebody who is well known for delivering good motors like i did then you can get a great running engine without requiring a rebuild. in fact im buying another swap from the same seller for my new project.

My S5 J-spec motor had "0" compression on the front rotor when I put the motor in. I put motor oil and MMO in the crankcase and tried cranking it, after it "soaked" for a few days, but still no compression in the front rotor. I was still in denial that it was blown, so I put some ATF through the spark plug holes and hand rotated it and let it sit for another few days. Tried cranking it again to start it, but still NOTHING. After that, I said "F-CK it!" The car sat for about 6 months. I then tried to "pull start" it a few times and FAILED. This was about the time that I figured out I had the Damn fuel lines reversed. I tried one final time to start the car...and to my surprise, it fired up. Checked compression...BOTH rotors have strong pulses! I was like WTF?!?! Anyways long story put short, not all J-Specs motors are garbage. ; )

take the exhaust manifold off and inspect the apex seals thrugh the exhaust ports with a flashlight.
9 out of 10 times you should be able to tell if the engine is doa by doing this.
Ive bought 2 jspec 13b-re motors that both had more than 100 psi of compression per rotor.
Well one had just under 90 when I first got it, after doing the water treatment and driving for about 2000 miles using premix the compression was over 100 psi warm.
