How can you tell if your water pump is good or bad?
Sorry for all the posts just totaly redoing my cooling system and don't want to halfass anything. So what I was wondering is. How can you tell if your water pump is bad? It looks ok to me and pretty damn simple. Anyways reason I ask is because everwhere in town I have to order it and every time I bid on one on ebay I get out bidded. Anyways thanks for the help.

Haven't we ALL heard this
If you see signs of water leaking out of your weep holes on the pump.
Turn the pump by hand and see if it feels rough in rotation.
But the water leaking out of the weep holes is the best sign.
Or, since it is fairly cheap you could just replace it if you have the time. That would be full assing if you did that!

Loosten the belts.
Wiggle the pulley - there should be no play in the pump's bearings.
Look for signs of coolant leakage at the weep hole under the bearings.
Feel for smooth rotation of the shaft.
