waterpump front housing questions?

I am in the process of dropping in my j-spec in my '89 TII and ran into some problems. When taking the water pump off my blown engine and bolting it to the j-spec it wouldn't fit on. The bolt pattern is the same but the shape of the housing is different so it cant slide on all the way. There is about an inch gap between the housing and the waterpump when it hits. I took a picture of kevin landers site (hope you dont mind) and wrote in the differences. #1: that little dowel looking thing is much shorter on the j-spec block then my blown block. #2 is were the waterpump is hitting the front housing, that whole indented area is different between the two blocks.
Hopefully the pictures show up as this is my first try at posting pictures, and hopefully everybody understands what I am trying to say. I can get some pictures of my actual block tomorrow night if needed. BTW I know this is a 6 port enging in the picture and both mine are 4-port. thanks

Sounds like you are trying to mix engine series... Is this true?

Only reason I ask, is, the housings on the S4/S5 are not interchangeable. If your trying to put an S5 waterpump housing on an S4 motor, you will run into that problem.
