how can I tell what turbo I have???

I don't have a stock turbo however when I bought it, it was under the pretenses that it was stock and when I got the turbo in to my pleasant suprise it was not stock but I am dumb when it comes to the tech terms of turbos can someone tell me, if it is possible, what turbo compressor I have??? The reason I'm wondering this is to know what the horsepower potential I'm looking at with this turbo

Got me there- been a long time since I looked at mine, what about marking on the turbo? I really doubt they only changed out the compressor wheel.

well don't alot of turbo companies just change out the turbine wheel and keep the housing?? I thought until you get to certian size like 60-1 you keep the same housing.

no, no markings at all. The compressor is in the stock housing so of course all it has is the hitachi logo on it.

The stock compressor housing has been machined to take a bigger wheel. Until you remove the housing and measure the wheel's dimensions it's impossible to tell exactly what it is.

Measure the wheel. It is a T04B compressor wheel of some sort due to having 8-paired blades. It will either measure out to be a V-trim wheel or slightly smaller as the largest T04B wheel that will fit within the stock compressor housing (machined to fit) is a V-trim wheel. I would say you will make anywhere from 280-320rwhp @15psi.

crap it looks like it's a stage one witch is better than stock but less than a stage two. Here is why it looks like a stage one taken from bnr website.

"Stage 1 turbocharger consists of an upgraded compressor wheel (T04B) machined to fit the factory compressor cover. The turbine wheel is clipped to spec to decrease back pressure and to help stabalize rotating assembly RPM. The rotating assemblies are balanced and blue printed to minimize vibrations and to give you a more reliable turbocharger upgrade. The stage 1 is acapable of 300-310 RWHP at or below 15 psi of boost. The turbo will make peak boost at around 3800 RPM. *All Turbochargers come with a 1- Year / Unlimited Mileage Warranty as long as the oil supply lines are replaced* *All Rotating Assemblies are Balanced and Blueprinted* *For Stage 2 and 3 applications, a 360 thrust package is offered for $60 additional charge* "

Mine is a Stage 1 turbocharger because it consists of an upgraded compressor wheel (T04B) machined to fit the factory compressor cover". Well I guess 310rwhp is kinda respectable

Are you certain it's a BNR hybrid though? It could have been put together by any other turbo shop and had the compressor housing machined to fit as well. BNR uses what looks like a T04B V-trim wheel. On their stage 1, the stock housing looks to be machined a little bit more than yours is (could just be my eyes though). I would say you have either a T04B T5/6 wheel or an S-trim wheel.

Look for the diameter of the inducer, and while you're at it, might as well measure the exducer as well. Inducer is the smallest diameter part of the wheel, and exducer is the largest diameter.

I agree, the inlet is not machined out that much at all.

Do both the t04e and t04b trim turbo's have 8 fins? If it's not a s-trim or t5/t6, then it could be majestics turbo upgrade which uses a small to4e-46 trim wheel. Is the exhuast wheel clipped at all?

how can I tell if its clipped??? What do you think this turbo could produce if its what you guys say it is??? I'll go ahead and measure everything and give the specs. I'm deffinatley not certain it is a bnr at all just going off of his site because I"m sure he can't be the only one doing it. This I'm pretty sure came from a jspec engine so more than likely came from japan, lol I gotta jdm turbo anyways Thanks for the help so far.

any T04E wheel = 6-paired blades
any T04B wheel = 8-paired blades
60-1 wheel = 7-paired blades

You have to pull the turbo and look at the turbine fins to be certain they are clipped.

Funny thing is, I got my hybrid (the one I was trying to sell) with my Jspec too... so I guess I had a "JDM" turbo... lol

I'll take a pic of my exhaust fins to see if they have been cliped. You know what sucks, man I feel like such a jack ***. Before I knew anything about these cars etc... I got an upgraded turbo for about 450 plus core that never spooled I got so pissed I bought another one and traded to a guy for putting in the new one (before I did all the work myself) that turbo that could never spool had 7 fins and had the stock housing but the inlet was milled way down to fit that bastard. I probably had a 60-1 but for some stupid reason no matter how high I reved that sack of **** it would not spool. Those fins where huge compared to this one to. I'll see if I can get a pic of my old turbo

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=59096, here is a picture of the turbo I used to have but wouldn't spool for ****. Notice the 7 turbine fins but its in a stock housing. does that look like a 60-1 and how can you fit a 60-1 into a stock housing?

A 60-1 wheel won't fit in a stock housing. It could have been a wheel from any other turbo manufacturer, as your current wheel could be as well (although your current wheel looks a lot like a Garrett wheel to me).
