How to breathe FIRE

We all know how. Run hellafied rich.
heres the trick - i just blew the motor going from 5th to 4th (don't laugh) on my 88 NA. The only motor I have sitting around is off another 88 NA. Unfortunately its ported in every way possible [bridgeport, tb mod, intake port etc]... The donor of this car had a fuel pump and a new ECU plus bigger injectors which need to come off. I CANT swap ECU's or fuel pumps (long story) and i need to take my big injectors off. How can i make this thing (its got a midpipe) blow flames?

The front cover, or the front iron? Just unbolt the front cover (after removing the pulley), unbolt the oil pan and remove it, tap on the front cover with a mallet to pop it free, then you can disassemble everything up front so it's just a keg left, remove the tension bolts and start taking it apart.

i dont know what the difference is. Evidently I am stupid.
Look at an engine from the side - there's 5 sections... The front one is stuck as hell.

I got that off. I'm too tired to think straight... but you are talking about the bolt thats held on with about 500 ft lbs right?

Alright. There's the front cover that the CAS and the OMP are connected to, that's the first thing that comes off. (it's silver in color), then there's the black iron peice behind it, which is held on by about 20 long bolts (the tension bolts) which go through the entire block (you'll find them on the back once the flywheel is removed) It won't come off unless all these bolts are removed.

My friend is here beside me.
"How the **** do you forget that?"
I'm smiling with my head in my hands...
We already took the flywheel off so we could do that. I just walked out and looked at it and noticed the bolts still there. I've officially been put in my place.
My god... I'm just... so... stupid...
Thats awesome. That ranks with trying to start the car with the clutch disengaged and wondering why it won't start. Or, my claim to fame, cussing it the hell out and being stumped for several hours as to why it wouldn't start with the neg batt term disconnected. S of a B. I'm going to bed.

the flywheel/flexplate nut is the one that has the super high torque rating, not the eccentric lock bolt in the front.

there are dowel pins that align the engine housings together, you know you just can't horizontally slide the housings off, right? if your tension bolts are removed (be sure to check the bottom 2, they can be overlooked), then get a rubber mallet and hit the bottom of the housing in an upward motion, and work it off. don't hit it too hard though. if it doesnt budge at all, then you've obviously got a tension bolt still in, or you had the housings welded together .

ya but that bolt isn't exactly simple to get off. To get the one in the front off, I stuck a 6" extension for my 3/8" drive socket in a hole on the flywheel (using the 1/2" drive and 19mm on the front, with a pipe wrench for a cheater bar) and my friend hanging on the engine and we got it. You ARE talkin about the 19mm bolt aren't you? See, i don't know all your advanced terminology. I know the basics and people generally get what I mean LoL

Just did that on my fresh rebuild. Turn key. Nothing. Call guy helping me out (he'd taken off at the time). "Hey, it's not cranking." "Oh, check the starter connections, I'm not sure if I tightened them."

About that time I realized that I *do* need to press the clutch in. Fortunately the starter connections were loose, so even pressing the clutch in didn't make it start. Tightening the connections did.

But, yea, we've all done stupid things. It makes for good stories later on. I've lost count of how many times I've done something like forget to plug a hard drive in and then spend 20 minutes trying to figure out why the computer doesn't see it.
