umm, when the turbo is super heating the air to escape quickly so i would suspect that the exhaust would get very hot.

I burn my leg all the time on my exhaust pipe just getting stuff out of the trunk.

These are not some piston cars with their cool running exhaust

Dude.. calm down, have some dip... welcome to the club..

Oh, yeah... and get used to the ribbin, some of these guys can be a bit rough on newbs....

Use the search function A LOT and you will get flamed a LOT LESS BTW.. in case you didn't know it... the comment that set you off is called a flame.. therefore, you've been flamed!!!!

The reason that the exhaust is so hot is that there is a CONTINOUS blasting of exhaust gas hitting it at about 1300 degrees.. Piston cars puke out the exhaust once every TWO revolutions out of each cylinder.. A rotary barfs exhaust out of each rotor three times per revolution (well, wobble-eliptation) of the rotor.

Because of the continous, almost uninterupted flow, the metal gets exposed to much more heat than a piston motor in an equal period of time, and it just starts flowin back towards the tailpipe!!

If you ever ridden a two stroke dirtbike, where the exhaust is pushed out with every revolution, you know how how those bastards can be.. Rotary is very similar in that respect. and the whole premixin thing.. In fact, I used to tune my RD350 (2-stroke street bike where the Banshee 4-wheeler gets is motor from) with an EGT meter back in the day.. and the accepted best power range was to have the EGT be 1275F .. pretty much what my 7 shows!!!!!

If you want to see proof that Mazda realizes that the rotary is capable of putting out major amounts of heat... Look at your STOCK oil cooler, its up in front of the radiator... Its bigger, and more efficient than most aftermarket ADD-ON oil coolers I've seen. And its STOCK!!!! Hell, most cars dont even HAVE an oil cooler!!!
