High Oil Pressure

Hey guys, i have a '87 n/a w/ RB downpipe and pre-silencer. I'm having normal oil pressure at idle (30psi) but when i get on the car a little, the oil pressure goes way up, like 80 at least. whats that about ?

Higher rpm's means the pump is spinning faster, so more oil pressure. Normal

Could also be the gauge. The senders wear out and give false readings...

I have an aftermarket gauge and I read 35-40 at idle, and almost 90 above 1500 RPM.

Ok, i just didn't think it was supposed to hit 80psi or much higher. thanks. and here's a totally off topic question...

Can you use a pressure washer @ the car wash to blast out funk/hair from the front of a radiator ? (popping the hood and spraying through the rad away from the car) just don't want to bend any fins or anything.

after driving yesterday for an hour or so, i still think my oil pressure is too high. It's over 60psi and almost maxed out on the gauge when i'm @ anything higher that 2000rpm's. Correct me if i'm wrong but, isn't 80-100psi too high for such low RPM's ?

I've had mine give funky readings. It went to ~100 one day and didn't the next. Nothing changed internally in my engine between that time.

Maybe the engine has been rebuilt and the builder for some reason put the higher pressure oil regulator in? Or maybe just a simple oil sender issue. But yeah for normal 80-100 is high. I read ~30 idle and 60 anything over 2,500rpm like most people here.

87 TII with a fresh rebuilt and a 1200 rpm idle, my autometer gauge reads 60-66 psi and hits 95+ at 4000 rpm

91 Turbo - I get around 30 at idle, 60ish cruising, 80+ when pushing it. As far as the radiator cleaning idea... low pressure I guess? Don't think I've ever seen any posts about it or ever mentioned.

Yea, it could be the gauge or sender but, when idling i'm right at 30psi, once i get any higher than that the pressure rises real fast & stay there. What problems could this cause ?

im going to get flamed for this....

look around the starter/transmission for a dangling connector. (little black box with a spade connecter). its a capaciter for the oil sender. its supposed to help keep the needle from bouncing around i think or its a fail safe that keeps the guage working longer.

should have mentioned what to do if you find it...

bolt it to anywhere on the body or engine like a ground. its supposed to bolt under the coilpack by the clutch/brake tanks.

Well, that one capacitor was already mounted under the coil where it should be, the one i'm speaking of is identical to that one but it's hanging right behind/under the oil filter. it's exactly the same as the other, little black capacitor box w/ a eyelet for a bolt. i bolted it to the fire wall but, nothing has changed yet that i can see.hmmm
