It's listed as a series 4 (86-88 engine)

It has a s4 TPS and a s4 OMP..... so he's full of crap. He also has it listed as a twin turbo setup?

It is correctly labeled as 86-88, but of course it is not twin turbo.

First, welcome to the Forum!

There's a wealth of information here about these cars, but there are also a wealth of jerks with no patience for noobs on here as well. Take your time, search for and read through the threads that have already answered the questions you may have, you would be surprised at how many people have encountered the same issues, no matter how particular they may seem. People get irritated when they see the same questions being asked to no end.

That being said: you won't find a side to side picture comparison. But yes, after experience with these motors some can tell the differences just by looking at them. They are subtle, and it takes a trained eye with professional diligence cultivated from hours upon hours trolling rx7club.com and other rotary websites.

The first thing I noticed was that s4 (series 4) motor has a single TPS (throttle positioning sensor) plunger, whereas the s5 models had two.

This is a series 5 motor. Easiest way to tell is the s5 has two tps sensors and a steel tube where the upper radiator hose connects with no radiator cap

see the difference? Series 5:

Series 4:

The thermostat housing on s5 is plastic, not steel.

its got the S4 waterpump/thermostat neck. the intakes are s4

you can see the extra actuator for the S4 turbo, also the BOV tube coming off the turbo is aluminum on an S4, and plastic on an S5.

1 tps, S5 has 2.

nice clutch...
