Since the '86 and '88 are both Series 4 ('86-'88) everything should be almost exactly the same. BUT, do a search for 'injector impedance' and read up on it before you get started.

the leak on teh engine is probably a faulty fuel line, pulsation damper, or injector grommet. replacint the engine may fix the leak but you should look into replacing all vacuum lines, fuel liness, have the injectors cleaned and flow tested, replace all belts and hoses plugs, and applicaple gaskets before installing the new engine into the 86. IMO, a fuel leak is far eaiser to fix than an engine replacement. if you are not mechanically inclined to fix the fuel leak, how do you plan on replacing the engine? you may be opening a new can of worms. fix your fuel leak before looking into replacing the engine.

Use the harnesses & fuel injectors from the '86 engine to avoid resistance problems.

No idea what hourly rate you would agree on, but pulling an engine, then replacing it is about an 8 hour job for someone with experience and 1-2 people to help maneuver things around. That's if he will be disconnecting everything, then reconnecting it on the new engine.
