Help...NO RUNNING LIGHTS!!!

for a couple days now ive noticed my dash lights flickering on and off and eventually they come on.... well tonight iwas getting ready to leave a friends house and when I turn the control **** my headlights come on but my instrument cluster and all running lights do not come on... Any ideas where to start with this. Checked all my fuses and they are all good... unless i'm missing one. I checked the meter fuse which SHOULD be the fuse and its good...

Any ideas???

Take off the instrument surround and check to see if the plug to the light switch burnt out.

My 90' Wiring to the switch had burnt and melted the wires also. If that connector
isn't burnt, try replacing the whole head light switch.

well at this point i have to wait till morning, but in essence what plug should I be looking for? I know going into the panel are 2 wiring plugs and the speedo. What should I be looking for in terms of markings in ref to a burn out?

You're looking for the plug that connects right into the light switch where you turn the lights on and off. Just take the 3 screws on the top bottom and 2 screws on the bottom of the surround to gain access to it. Usually, people would find black burnt wires and connectors.

The METER fuse is for the gauges (and other stuff), the tailllights and dash lights are protected by the ILLUM fuse. Check it, but you'll probably find it's a the switch that's the problem.

If the connecter isn't obviously burnt, test the switch with a DMM. With it plugged it, there should be 12V on the white/green wire (power from fuse). When you turn the taillights on there should now be 12V at the red/black (tail) and red/green (dash) wires. If not you need to replace the switch. If the connecter is burnt replace the harness too.

headlight switch is in the cluster Surround... not the gauge cluster
