So you want to build an engine and all you can think of is painting the throttle body
The search function is Gold

The throttle body has to be one of the most difficult parts of the engine to detail...not so much because of the body itself but because of all the external stuff.
All of your springs, cams, levers, etc. are probably in crappy shape (visually, at least) and unless you deal with them, the whole job is pointless.

Ignoring for a second the complexity removing and then properly reassembling all this external gear, you need to figure out how to deal with them finish-wise.
I'd look into a zinc-chromate finish, which was (and is) very common for that sort of thing.

Like most projects, I'd look at the most difficult phase first (in this case, the above mentioned) and figure out how to deal with it before jumping in.

Start by reading the factory service manual engine disassembly, inspection, and assembly procedures. About 10 times. Then read the Haynes manual engine assembly procedure. About 10 times. Then buy a rebuild video and watch that a couple times, or at least check out the free videos on http://www.rebuildingrotaryengines.com . Then start searching on here for common problems that people have when they build motors, like endplay on the e-shaft, oil pressure, setting timing, installing coolant seals, oil pan leaks, etc.

I would definitely budget months for the project if you are teaching yourself with no outside help from someone experienced.
