recently checked this 87 turbo II out in my area. it has 153 k on it and is on the original motor. im lookin into buying it and need your guys help.

first of all, the body is good and straight, and the paint is alright, only a big spot on teh door (fixable).

there are some things im worried about tho, the shifter feels soooo loose, def needs new bushings but you can also move the shifter rod up and down, no only jiggle it around. in addition, the owner said that he needs to replace one of the gaskets on the turbo.

i havent test driven it yet tho, he said that he didnt wanna run it w/o that gasket (i dont remember what it was).

oh yeah, one of the bushings on the drivers side rear control arm is bad and he says it causes the car to steer weird.

can you guys help me out with these problems, like tell me what causes them and if they're easy to fix. i would be surely grateful.

If he doesnt want to run it, dont buy it. Find out what gasket needs to be replaced and tell him straight up if he wants to sell you the car, fix it and when you buy it youll pay for it or something.

Could be a number of things with the gasket.. Either the manifold to engine gasket, turbo to manifold gasket, or it could be the gaskets in the oil lines (thus creating a hell of a mess when started) Though with 153k miles on it, it's almost destined it's going to need a rebuild and/or new engine soon... So keep that in mind, TII's don't make it very far with miles.

Ya, don't pay more than $1500 or so I'd say. Depending on how clean the interior and such is.

Kevin could hook you up with a street ported motor for probably 1400$ (or around that, give or take)

Hold on a second, dont buy this car unless he starts it without the gasket on it, if this thing smokes bad, tell him to replace the gasket and then talk to him, most likely this car is smoking like a chimney because of a blown turbo or a blown engine, not a gasket, be careful, and dont pay more than $850 for a T2 with 153k on it with these problems,

If the bushings are shot, the shifter will move up and down, but thats not normal. As far as what to look for, If he wont run it, then its not worth much. Might as well be buying a non-running car.

Its normal for a worn-out/missing bushing. But its not "normal". As in, its not working like it should. Thats not too hard to fix. In fact, its quite simple.
