Help me ID this connection

Was laying on my back today, doing some work under the dash and found this connection. Not really sure what it is, maybe someone here has a clue? It's almost directly under the steering column, near the ball heater (the vent hat blows air at your crotch)

Anyone got a clue to what it is, or should i try to chase it back to it's source?

It's clearly not stock, so it could be anything.

i got no trailer hitch, and no signs that one was ever bolted or welded on.

i see where you might get that from, but there has never been anything plugged in to it and the car starts just fine. and yes, it is a very shoddy job by whoever installed this thing.

still has the stock security system hooked up and mostly working (sometimes it'll go off if the doors were unlocked and you open them)

looking like i'll have to chase it back to it's source next weekend. was hoping someone had seen a similar connector and might have some insight. thank you all for your help so far

I would have to agree. It looks like it was a disable key that some one snapped the head off in the socket. I used to see these all the time on cars when I did car stereo installs. Dealerships would slap them on the car and mark it up 4-5x what they paid for it.

Have you traced the wires back?

as for it being snapped off, i just went out and took a closer look. with the aid of a
small flat head screwdriver i was able to pry this little board out of it.

it was indeed an anti-theft device. when this is removed the ignition is disabled. guess that's another mystery solved, thanks sgossert!
