headlight question.
headlight question.
I just busted my right side quarter panel and my right headlight cant go down. When the accident happened i turned off my car, not thinking i also put down my headlights like usual. I imidietly saw my right headlight stay up so i left the headlights in the up postion.
Now heres my question.
Having my headlight stuck, did it drain my battery?? And how fast b/c i was taking off the panel today and its been sitting for only TWO days and its dead.

Mine just did the same thing... The plastic housing on the side of the headlight came loose and made the headlight jam half way up. And yes, it drained the battery dead.
No, the headlight itself wasnt on.

I HAD A SIMALAR PROBLEM A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, I FOUND OUT THAT SOMETHING UNDER THE HEADLIGHT WAS WEDGED IN THE WAY CAUSING IT TO NOT CLOSE I FOUND OUT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PLUG, WELL I MOVED THAT AND IT CLOSED JUST FINE, (OOPS CAPS LOCK), anyway when it was stuck up the motor tried to close it like it should and after a few hours my battery was dead well this was before i fixed it and i recharged the battery and it did it again but after i got it to close i have not had a problem since so search around the headlight and arms that close it only takes a few minutes
The headlight motors have position switches in them that stop the motor in the fully up or fully down position. Anytime they're not in one of those two positions, the motors are LIVE even with the igntion off. If they get jammed part way they will drain the battery unless you pull out the 30A RETRACTOR fuse in the engine bay fuse box.
It's likely that when you tried to lower the headlights the one on the damaged side moved just enough to close the limit switch before jamming, and hence putting power to the motor and draining the battery.
Until you get this fixed just leave the fuse out and you'll have no more battery issues. Crank the other headlight up manually so your headlights are usable and your car doesn't look lop-sided.
