Has Anyone taken out their power steering? Mines shot, dont wanna fix
My ***** leakin bad, real bad, too compact, I cant see where its comin from-but it pours out quick. I plan on just leavin it, no power steering dosent bother me much. Could I actually take out some **** to get rid of some weight, and what would I have to leave in?

Driving it around without the belt may cause your leak to stop...maybe. I've had the belt off mine for a few months... i love the feel!
But.. You can remove the pump and resovoir.. And everything else, EXCEPT the rack. There should be two hoses going into the rack. Somehow, connect them, and make sure there is some fluid inside.

Yeah, lots of us P/S guys take off the power steering cause we like the feel of it better without. Remove the belt, remove the pulley, remove the pump and connect a the two lines going into the pump together.

you can connect the 2 lines together if you want to, but you dont have to. lots of people (including my self) have done it differntly. Just take everything out, the pump, and remove all the lines. that will leave you with 3 holes in the ps rack. turn the wheel all they way back and forth untill no more fluid spirts out of the rack, and plug the holes, and you are ready to go! you need to turn the wheel to get the excess fluid out or you will get hydrolock after you plug the holes and you wont be able to turn the steering wheel. some people have raised concernes about not having enough fluid in the rack, but i figure as long as there is enough to slosh around in there it will be just fine. I have not heard of anyone ever having any problems by doing it this way. I have had my car like this for atlreast 6months or so and have had absolutly no problems at all

I have only drove my 87TII about 100 miles since I bought it but the P/S pump and brackets were gone when I bought it. It fells tight but you can actually FEEL the tires if that makes sense. There is a big plus to this less weight in the car when you pull that pump and bracket you'll lose a decent amount of weight. Good Luck!!!

I'm used to driving an 87 toyota mr2. too me, my 86 sport feels heavy without the power steering. The rack and pinion is leaking and I want to fix it, but I don't have the tools to do it. anyone know what a fair price would be for a shop to do it? thanks.
