Gutting Cats

Is it worth it to gut the Catylitic Converters? I have heard of a lot of people doing this, but is it really worth it. Or should I save my pesos and buy a header and catback? By the way My car is a 1988 GXL bone stock. Thanks in advance

Dont gut em'. It makes a tinny metalic bullshit sound. If u want cheap straight pipe go to a muffler shop and have them cut off the cats and weld straight pipe. Go to one of those run down muffler shops that look like they need customers if you want it done really cheap. 25-45 bucks. That way you can put your old cats back in if needed.

I'm thinking of this as a temp fix until I can put in a strait pipe to main cat. I think my precats are clogged, every once in a while, I can smell exhaust (high rpm). Question is, with just the main cat, will I still have enough back-pressure to open the actuators for 5/6 ports?

I would think you'd have enough backpressure as long as you still have a muffler. Cats don't make THAT much backpressure
