green *** noob question.
i have an 88 gxl. I just recently put a new muller on the car. after installing the muffler the car will not start. Now, the car was running a performance can and possibly a gutted cat. Is this all causing my plugs to foul? They are all nasty and black so some where gas is not igniting.
I now have a new "cheery bomb" muffler from pepboys i installed as a "temporary" way to pass inspection. Should this fix the problem, along with new plugs/wires?
thanks for "positive" input.
oh yes, and another. the key will not unlock driver door. are the power lock switches notorious for going bad? key works on pass. door, and both interior lock buttons work...

Unless the muffler was clogged so that it could not flow at all, there would be no reason for the car not to start.
I would suspect that the engine was simply flooded, and that the Cheery Bomb muffler will last about 3 hours before its packing melts away to nothing. If the engine was indeed flooded, then you will need to change the oil and I would do a compression check, as compression is probably low.
The power lock system on RX-7s equipped with power locks is a "Follow Me" system. There is no power door lock actuator in the drivers door, rather just a switch, that as you move it to lock or unlock, it sends a signal to the passengers door lock actuator to lock and unlock.
However the key in the drivers door should unlock and lock the drivers door. If it does not, then most likely the rod for the door lock has become disconnected, and will need to be reconnected.

Diluted oil tends not to lubricate very well, and then the engine fails...
So no you don't have to change the oil... unless you want your engine to last longer.
You didn't think it unusual that your oil smells like gas??

thanks alot guys for all the helpful input.
as for the lock cylinder, I can turn it either direction and nothing happens. so i would agree with the idea of the rod being loose/broken or unhooked. cuz, using the drivers interior lock, unlocks the passenger door.
i am installing new plugs tonight and i'll hope that fixes it. being that the car drove all the way home fro Va beach a few days before, i dont think anything catastrophic has happened. other than this, the car has run very well, and consumed no more than the regular amount of oil.
thanks again for all the helpful input!!
