Glowing turbo with no boost WTF?

Ok, so I know my setup is kinda ghetto right now because I'm still trying to get the megasquirt working.
I have the s4 N/A ECU with t2 primaries, and a t2 turbo. So what causes a turbo to GLOW under no boost conditions? Could a small vaccume leak cause this? Would this be caused by too much backpressure? or not enough backpressure? Does running too right cause this?
What are the causes of a glowing turbo (other than high boost levels?)

Thanks, Phiip

Clogged cat, VERY clogged. Or you are running insanely rich

Clogged cat, stuck open injector, retarded ignition timing can all do it...

How do you zero your timing with a megasquirt anyways?

What he said. But most likely the ignition is incorrectly set/not zeroed out(retarded timing).

ok, so insanly retarded timing, very rich, and clogged cat could cause this. Well I took the cat off to hollow it out and it was not clogged, could the mufflers be clogged? I don't think so. I know i'm running a lil rigt and the timing is a lil retarded but I did'nt think it was that severe.

So could a, intake leak cause this? would an intake leak cause the computer to dump too much fuel?

a big intake leak could do it for sure... I think it would need to be pretty big to do that though.

VERY High EGT's meaning way retarded ignition, way too much fuel or a combination of the two.

First, ditch the stock ECU. Thats probably whats causing your issues. The timing curve on the N/A computer is entirely wrong for a turbo'd car and probably causign your issue. Get the mega squrit working and go from there.

The timing being a "little retarded" and the mixture being a "little rich" can both add up to a lot of extra heat. I had an old n/a run way rich (but still idled smooth) but the timing was good. At idle I once had the cat glowing orange on it. It doesn't take much to really send exhaust temps soaring.

All right we are still getting the Glowing turbo, I have checked the timing, it is dead on

The extra fuel i really cant do anything about at the moment, would like to get the dam MS working.

We have totally took the Exhaust out of the problem, checked Main cat, it was gutted, then I was thinking maybe the mufflers where plugged, so he removed one of the mufflers on the way home. Still Glowing bright red

Now he just called me and said that he cant boost it, so i am thinking that the turbine wheel is melted away. So I really havent ever seen this much heat before.

The Idle is fine, a little low but still decent.

I think the CAT can glow red because of other things such as too much oil being burnt, ect.... I don't think a glowing CAT is entirely directly realted to high EGT's, but neather is a glowing turbo though.
