ghetto shift boot?
Hey guys. I ordered the shfiter bushings for my s4 t2 tranny from mazdatrix. I was too cheap to order the rubber boot you have to break to get the new bushings on. ANyone got any ghetto ideas to cover teh shifter? Maybe a cv axles boot or steering boot. lol. I regret not buying it now

yeah man after you take your shiftknob off, use a flat head screw driver and pop that base cover off and that and the shifter boot will come off without any damage i did it today to replace the bushing on my shifter

You won't break it by removing it but chances are it's hosed anyway from age. I tried this idea on mine as a cheap replacement and it has worked out pretty well so far:

I used the frame it came with and match drilled the assembly to the existing holes in the car, as opposed to drilling new holes in the tunnel. I'll see if I can attach a couple pics. The leather shift cover is of course placed back over all this when complete, so it looks totally normal.
