Gas Smell

Lately my car has been smelling like gas around the engine, mainly around the throttle body/intake manifold area. There is no leak i know that much and a frined of mine said that my exhaust smells rich. I dont know what the problem could be. The smell is no where else other that right in the engine area.

If you smell gas in the engine compartment, shut it down and find the leak. It WILL catch fire and you WILL stand there helpless while the car goes up in flames unless a nice county bus driver stops and hands you a fire extinguisher. I know.

You have a fuel leak. take off the throttle body and upper manifold, turn the key in the on position and find your leak. It could be as simple as a fuel line clamp replacement.

yes, plz listen to them. I took mine to meineke to get a free check up on my exhaust cuz i thought my exhaust was leaking and i found out it was fuel leaking onto my downpipe. That just about the worst place for it to go. So as of now my throttle body and surge tank are sitting in the back of my car until i can find the problem. From the sounds of it, i think we might have the same problem...

Fuel leaking onto the downpipe is most likely a bad pulsation dampener. It is above the lim and when leaking will drip onto the exhaust.

just got done working on the car and found out that the screw on the end of the pulsation damper wiggled itself loose. Rotarythekiller, try taking the plastic cap off your pd and check to see if the screw is on or not. I jumped the fuel pump and turned the ignition to on, and fuel was pouring from the pd....I'll probably just put some locktite on the screw and thread it back in.....

dont do that, do the banjo bolt mod if nothing else. the screw isnt the prob its the rubber diaphram under it, it is ripped, itll keep leaking until you replace it or bango bolt it

if it isnt any of the above it is possible that it is time to replace your rubber fuel hose and all your clamps... it could also be a leaky injector... has your car been fouling out latley?... it is possible that the gas fumes are seeping back up thru the intake manifold... but i would put my money on a fuel leak...

You can pinch the return line to increase the fuel pressure in your system to make that leak easier to find.

Everyone is giving you all you need to search for the results that have been posted 500+ times on this forum. Fuel leaks need to be fixed. Replace the injector orings/grommets also they leak as well. Vacuum leaks can cause fuel smells, although your raw gas smell is likely Pulsation dampner or injector/fuel rail leaking. Best idea is to jumper the fuel pump and then pinch off the return to increase the fuel pressure so u can find the leak.
