Front end 'popping' over bumps
Okay, so i finally got to pull the front passenger wheel off of my NA to get a good look at it and figure out what the hell is making so much noise. It will generally only make noises in right turns, like pulling out of a parking space really sharp, or just a plain ol hard right turn. It will make it on left turns but it seems to be less prone to make the noise. It will also make the noise if i hit a bump on the interstate at high speeds (read 80+). But i can definitely tell it is coming from the front passenger well. I pushed and pulled on most of the parts, but no luck. Well, out comes the 4 foot prybar. (tee hee)
Okay, if i use a little bit of force on the lower control arm, i can get somewheres between 1/16 and 1/8 inch of movement through the bushing in circle labelled 'A'. Second, the circle 'B' has a rubber bushing or ring or something that has split up the middle... could either of that be the source of the popping?
Third, circle 'C' just scares the shat outta me, am i going to have to use that strut mount if i get a set of tien yellows or tokico illuminas?

I've got this too since I mis-matched the RB Convertible springs with non-supported Tokico struts. Good luck finding the cause, I have no clue what's causing mine. New suspension all around and the ball joints are within pre-load specs.
I can tell you with those "dog bone" style end links on the swaybar, if you remove them and rotate the "pillow *****" in the end link, they should be VERY STIFF. If they rotate freely you need to replace them.
These end lines are on the front & rear swaybars, and on the subframes (3 sets).

Could it be coming from the strut itself? It sounds like it is making the sound under compression. Also check for stuff that might be catching on a spring.
I assume you have checked to make sure all the bolts are tight. My 626 was making a wierd clunking sound over bumps, and it turns out that the idiots at the body shop hadn't tightened down a bolt on the suspention.

My initial thought was that the spring on the strut was somehow rotating or perhaps compressing to the point that one of the rings 'slipped' past another. I have seen these kinds of things in really cheap small springs, but never in something as big as a car. it is already too dark for me to pull the wheel off again, so i will do it tomorrow when i have a bit more light to work with. But the most prominent time this happens is when i cut hard out of a parking space at low speeds, so how much could the spring really be compressed at < 10 mph?
