Hey guys. Most of you guys know my setup, but I am gonna list it anyway. I have a 60 trim turbo, 60mm wastegate, 3" turbo back, Xs Power manifold, 650 injectors, boost gauge, a/f gauge, and thats about it as far I can remember at the moment. Anyway, I have the stock TMIC, and most of you guys recommended a FMIC, engine management, bigger secondaries, and thats about it too, I think.

Anyway, my question is, what size FMIC do you guys recommend for my setup. I have a FMIC with dimensions of 30x8.5x2.5. The inlet and outlet are 2 1/4". I was thinking about a BIG fmic, with dimensions of 30.5x12x3. I want to know what you guys think and recommend???

 

First of all, ditch the XS power manifold. It's going to crack. Go with HKS or Greddy unless you can afford a nice stainless. What power levels are you looking for? Pump gas?

are you planning on running custom piping and everything? I know my Greddy kit is pretty damn big. Are you willing to hack your bumper up? Most people with kits use Greddy or HKS (although Greddy seems to be more common), although Corksport now has a kit which requires no cutting of the bumper I am told, although A/C must be removed. It seems like Corksport's is smaller than the Greddy though.

 

Looking for a strong 350-380 rwhp on pump gas. So what dimensions do you recommend?

Well, does anyone have a similar setup like mine? What size core do you have?

 

dude that FMIC should be fine. You could get close to that power on the stock top mount if you had some kind of auxilary injection.

SPEND YOUR MONEY ON A BETTER MANIFOLD.

 

Alright guys, I will get a manifold as well. I have money for both. But I am trying to figure out what size core I should go with. Would you guys go with a 30.5x12x3 with 2.5 inlet and outlet, or would you guys go with the 30x8.5x2.2 with 2 1/4 inlet and outlet??? Or would you guys get something inbetween? If so, what size?

 

I think 30" is too long, although it depends on where you place it and how much of the car you want to hack up. Mine is about 26" long (20" core + approx 3" end tanks) and it barely fits between the headlights. Besides, it's usually better to have the intercooler more square shaped, so you may want to consider an intercooler with less length. I recommend making a cardboard mock-up to check sizing based on how you intend to modify your car to accept the custom intercooler and plumbing.

 

I have exactly 32" between headlights. LOL! So it will fit. I bet I am gonna hack up that front bumper ALOT though. LOL!

yes.... core support is a GOOD thing.

well, not to be disrespectful to the departed (R.I.P), but while cutting up the bumber supports and core support to mount up crazy intercoolers makes cars faster, it doesn't do much to help structural integrity.

 

Are you saying that, that fmic I am planning on buying is too big? If you really, think so, and if it really requires lots of modification, then I dont think I want to go that way. What do you think? Do you think its too big? If so, what do you think is a reasonable price?

I think you would be fine with a smaller one, the larger ones just require alot of cutting and hacking. I'm currently running one that is 26 maybe inches and it fits without too much trouble, I need to work out some piping issues and actually switch to a different one (it's one of the older same side intake/outake ones) I have to run the piping over the block instead of around it so I can get a strut support bar across it. But you should be able to find one that is smaller and maybe a better brand for around the same price no problem!

 

Hey man, would you mind posting a pic of your intercooler installed? Just wandering, cause now I am debating on that big of an intercooler. LOL!

 

No disrespect to the deceased as well, but lets not forget his car had:

1) no bumper core support
2) no airbags (momo steering wheel - not like that would make a difference with 2nd gens)
3) RX-8 seats (sit higher)
4) no seat belts.

Soo, yes the core support does help with structural integrity, but those other features help as well.

 

So you think the 30.5x12x3 is ok? LOL!
