Question about miata short shifter

I was reading this short shifter writup in the archives...

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/miata-short-throw-shifter-writeup-445801/

and the link to the ebay auction of the shifter used is no longer available. I would just like to know what shifter was used for this conversion.

Doesn't really matter. I think mine was for a first gen Miata. Just make sure it is a short throw shifter, not a 'short' shifter.

Also, since your car is an S4, you will need a new shift ****. Any S5 and up RX-7 or Miata shift **** will work. I am using a 5spd RX-8 ****.

ehh, while this is up here, S5 drivers that did this conversion, did you notice much of a difference? I'm really thinking about going back to stock because of the rattling, how hard it is (though i've gotten used to it), and just because. opinions please!!

Mine doesn't rattle at all, never has. Usually that is a trans issue (per Mazdatrix). Every car is different.

The RX-8 shift **** I bought came from rx7.com

You can't buy the 5-spd **** at the dealer in the U.S. I think. (only 6-spd)

the rattling is one thing (i've did a little reading on the issue and know it's the tranny)
but is the shift really that much shorter than the stock s5 shifter?

Mine is quite a bit shorter. Just a quick flick of the wrist. I can definitely tell, especially when I drive an FC without one.

My Miata short throw shifter with the RX-8 **** sits at nearly the same level as the stock S5 shifter and ****. This is perfect for me since I hate little nub shifters that are hard to grasp. Also with the taller shifter the leverage is perfect for quick short throws.
