Question Flushing oil cooler

My 7 sat for almost 3 years and so did the oil cooler that
had a mean oil line leak. I would like to gunk off the stuck oil and dirt on the fins and as well inside the cooler. Is there a way to do my own cooler flush??..I went to a radiator shop that distributes KOYO rads and they told me to fill the core with some kind of degreaser ( i was told CHEM DIP). Its the same stuff i used to clean my housings when i rebuilt my engine. It worked pretty good but i would like to know if any of you recommend doing this. I know there is a thermostat inside but how do i keep it OPEN to get degreaser all inside the cooler. Thanx in advance!

Best choice is to have it flushed by a place that does aircraft oil coolers
