Flooding Problem With 88 Na
Ok Dont Rip My *** On This Guys I Know This Has Been Kinda Covered Here And There But I Wanna Cover This Specific Car And See If I Can Work Out The Problem Before I Take It Under My Wing.. So Here Is The Things I Went With On The Car.. Well When Tryin To Crank It Over It Floods Out And Wont Start.. Disconect The Fuel Pump And It Takes A Second But Starts Up And Then Plug The Fuel Pump Back In. Then It Stays Idling At Around Or A Little Above 2grand Even After Warming Up. But Runs Fine A Little White Smoke With The Gas Smell At First But Burns Of. It Dont Sound Rough And Dont Spit Or Spudder Just Idles High Once Its Running. What All Should I Do To Figure This Issue Out Before Takin The Car.. ??
If you've flooded it repeatedly, you may have one or more fouled out plugs or sooted up plugs prone to fouling and flooding.
I would start with a compression test and if that's decent, new plugs or have the old ones bead blasted and cleaned.
The idle issue may be as simple as an adjustment at the throttle stop screw and TPS reset... or it could have been set high to remedy the low and inconsistent idle that accompanies low compression.

thanks alot. ill start with a compression check and see how that turns out.. guess i can check them plugs in that process. would it be better to manualy turn the engine over doin the check or by key? ive never done one bofore so maybe you can instruct me?
I have an '86 here doing about the same thing, and I've checked everything electrical twice and replaced the fpr. Injectors are my next thing to swap and see if it helps.
Oh and you spin it w/ the key to check compression. You have to remove the check valve out of the end of the tester hose though to check it properly. Do a search on "checking compression" and you should find plenty of info on that

I bet you have leaky injectors, mine were the same way. I cleaned them and it has not flooded since.
Replace your plugs as well, they are going to be dirty. You always want to change the oil ASAP, the gas is bound to have got in the oil and that is not good.
Overall it sounds perfectly fixable if you are asking if you should buy the car. I would get it if the price is right.
