Flooding

I am trying to find a 91 vert, but I have a question about flooding. How often does this happen? is it only when you step on the gas before starting it up? does it happen if you try to turn it on then off then on again? Or is it only on short drives around the block? any input please?

phhewww.

OK, there's a couple of reason why any rotary will flood. Leaking injectors? Low Compression.. not allowing it to fully warm up

The Rotary engine like to be warmed up before shut off. This is why i (or any rotary guy/girl) would recommend driving your car for at last 15 min.. after you start it up in the morning.

The newer 86+ engines are fuel injected. there is no reason for you to press the gas pedal to start the car. The 89+ engines have a fuel cut in the gas pedal. Car flooded? hold the pedal to the floor for a couple of turns. than release it.. car should start

the 86-88 Series 4 engines have an EGI fuse in the main fuse box under the hood. If the car is flooded you have to remove this Fuse hold the gas pedal to the floor try to start (it will not) than reinstall the fuse and be on your way. if either the S4 or the S5 engine is severly flooded you would have to remove the spark plugs to get extra fuel out of the cumbustion area..

If the engine is tuned properly and well maintained, there is no reason for it to flood. Let it warm up in the morning.. than when done driving.. i usually let her idle down for about 30 seconds before shutting her down.. just to let all the fluids take their resting places.

I'm sure others have different answers.. so let's get this thread started.

good luck on the 91 vert.

I installed a fuel cut, basically its a fuse bypass switch an my s4. I thnk this is a good idea that way when you go to shut it off, you simply, let it idle flip the switch and it shuts its self off through lack of fuel.
