yes, my exhaust system came off a stock automatic rx7 and it shot flames, mine is a 5 speed with the same one and it also shoots flames.
I think the guy just shifted manually at redline
ps. you need a straight exhaust.

Well if you have a cat, you better have that air pump pumping some fresh air.. if not your cat is going clog up and serverily hinder preformance.

Having no cat and a straight through exhaust will definately do it, having a rich tune will also be a determining factor.

In my rx2 (13b turbo) I had a straight through exhaust, no cat, microtech ecu and it wouldnt stop doing flames, lit the whole car up at night when i hit decel. Was annoying in a way, cool if you do one here and there when someone is tailgating you to scare them off, but i was more worried about if i was cruising and a cop was behind me!

 

I wish my car could shoot huge blue flames like in fast and furious, but there might be damage to the manifold :[
