Fixing 88 vert audio

New to audio stuff so bare with me. It has the setup with the cd, tape, and radio, and the headrest speakers. Some of the speakers are blown or the wiring is bad. I was taking stuff apart and when I took off the passenger front speaker I was looking at what I thought was the amplifier, but there was no fuse in it. Is this the amplifier and the cause of some of my problems? If so what fuse do I need to put in it, seems like a big one, IDK.

All of the amps are powered by the RADIO fuse. Chances are the speakers or the amps have failed. There should be information in the FSM for checking each.

What does it mean when only the front speakers work? I am trying to learn how to bypass the amplifiers and use the stock unit, for now. Where do I look for more info on this? I read the FSM. I tried searching, found threads that said search, but no real information. Just trying to find where to look to figure this out.

I have an 88 vert I picked up in March. It had stock radio/cassette and I wanted to put in a new head unit.

The amps in my car were missing and it looked like someone tried to jury rig the headrest speakers. I ended up putting in a dash mount kit (I can get you the order info from installer.com) and hooking it up using a 4 speaker setup (using only the amp in the new radio (JVC). It's hooked up to the exsisting (I think) door speakers, and headrest speakers. It sounds pretty good (good enough for me). I can hear it just fine with the top down in traffic.

Each headrest has two speakers, so I tied the two left speakers together and the two right speakers together. That way I still get the proper stereo sound the head unit puts out.

If your power antenna still works, you'll have to use a relay switch since the stock antenna is enabled by grounding it (non stock radio will output a positive for power antenna). There are several write ups here for doing that.

As far as using the stock radio without the external amps, I'm not sure how (or if) that would work. The FSM has a ton of diagrams related to the audio setup. almost too many
Good luck.
