FD alternator
I've heard alot of talk on here about using FD alts in FCs. My FC seems to stuggle when alot of stuff is on (wipers, lights, heater, radio, defrost) and my radio cuts turns off and on like its posessed. would a larger alternator solve this problem?

There`s more to it than just a simple swap, I believe (someone correct me if I`m wrong) that the FC pulley has to be machined to fit the FD alternator. You will also have to modify the S4 wiring to work properly with the FD alternator.
Silverrotor sells these alternators ALREADY set up for our FCs. If you have an S4 he will send the plug you need but YOU must modify the wiring. Pretty simple to do though.

Opinions are like........
I didn't need an upgraded alternator.
I had a charging problem which was fixed by replacing my belts. They slipped without squealing.
Also, upgrade or supplement the battery/engine/alternator power and grounding cables. Its seems that old OEM cables can become resistive after years of use.
And, my final solution for poor charging is to up the engine idle from 750 to 900 rpm.
And, if you roast your alternator. Definitely buy that FD one. I'm waiting for mine to die. Until it does, its not in the budget.

i think the belt problem is what i have, my alt belts squeal when its hot. i've tried everything to get them to stop short of replacing them. so that could be the culpret, but it charges fine (no dead battery)
