fd alt plug wire question

i bought an fd alt plug with wiring but it has weird wire colors none that I found in schematics... it has a + and - thing labeled on it stamped in the plastic...

im assuming the + is S terminal and - is L terminal??? can someone confirm?

+ termianl would be wired to battery and - to the L terminal on s4 harness, R wire capped off...... I searched but my wire colors were weird compared to what I saw... harness is at home so i don't have colors off the top of my head, but I searched at home and it was different...

also.... for someone who has done the swap, I have read S wire needs a small inline fuse and have read it does not.... which is true?

The wires are not positive and negative. They serve two completely different functions.

Here's how you wire up an S6 alternator on an S4, and the alternator pin-outs.

I know that the wires are not positive and negative but the alternator plug that I bought and was told was an FD has a - and + stamped into the plastic. My wire colors are green/black and white/red I believe, and these don't correspond with the diagram above. Did I get a wrong alternator plug?

Also my lucky day, Just finshed the conversion to serpentine belts and installed the FD alt.
Kinda curious though. What's the difference between wiring the S wire directly to the battery and wiring to the EGI fuse wire? Any advantages?

When its behind the EGI fuse, its behind a fuse. Otherwise it has the potential of shorting something out, which is a bad thing. If you don't run it from the EGI fuse, you need to put in an inline fuse.

The wires on the new plug or the wires on your car's harness?

Did I get a wrong alternator plug?
As long as the plug fits in the alternator it'll work.

If I'm reading the FSM correctly, the EGI fuse is only hot when the ignition is in the ON position. Wiring it to that fuse would prevent the alternator from draining the battery when the car was off.

The engine bay fuses are all fed directly from the battery. The FSM wiring diagram and my schematic above clearly shows that...

Hey Nz, how are ya Kiwi? Thanks for the info mate.

I tapped the white/blue wire going to the EGI comp fuse then wired to the S terminal. I'm hoping that it's the right one. Could anyone confirm that it's the right one, Pls.

Cool, Thanks NZ.
Had all the electrical devices, lights,ac etc on at the same time w/ barely a drop in the voltage even at idle.
