Unhappy FC_Alternator Belt Installation???

Basically, I need lots of help on replacing an ALTERNATOR BELT...since mine snapped off from the alternator pulley. I popped the hood open and realized that all of the other belts were fine except the one that runs the alternator. Now, my problem is this: how do I loosen the other belts to replace the alternator belt that I have to replace?

Please help ASAP...I had to park it at a local Arco Gas Station overnight, which I hope I do regret doing, and that I would have to wait 'til Autozone opens up in the morning.

I have been downloading Service Manuals after Manuals to find my solution, but was unfortunate.

The power steering and AC belts come off by loosening thenut on the idle pulley and adjusting the blot that puts tensions on it. The airpump has a bracket on the bottom on the passenger side, you will also need to loosen the blot that holds the airpump on, as it is a pivot point, the same with the alternator belt. loosen the blot on the adjuster and the bolt at the pivot point where it attatches to the water pump housing. I don't remember if you have to remove all of these belts to get to the alternator one, but you'll find out. You will also need a large screw driver, pry bar, or other tool to tension the air pump and alternator belts. You could've driven home without a running alternator btw, i drove 20 miles on my old ford tempo with no alternator belt. Good luck.

You might as well replace all the belts while you are at it. Then you have no need to be broken down on the side of the road. You are going to do much of the work anyway, just buy all the belts.

Thanks for the help 'Monkay, I'm not really sure about the airpump...but, I will check it out. The reason, I had to leave it at the gas station was that I ran out of power when I pulled up to get gas...so, I had no choice. I basically, have to put a new belt for the alternator today, and I'll keep in mind what I have to do.

Thank you so much for the help.

If there is an autozone nearby they'll charge it for you if you take it to them, if you'd like to do it at home instead of at a gas station.

Yeah, I dropped off the battery earlier...as well as picked up an owner's manual by Haynes for $5...they said that it was discontinued, that's why it was so cheap. Ofcourse, I had to pick it up

Now, I'll be installing the battery and try and run the car home, instead of the gas station.

Thanks again 'bro...

the GTU should be up and running by the end of the day.

Thanks for all of the help and advice. Can't wait to work on the FC...noob status tends to be a little scary and confusing...hehehe
