Failed emissions again(high HC)
I just replaced spark plugs, changed oil and filter, cleaned and reoiled my k&n filter(which is true CAI, i wonder if that has anything to do with it, but i dont think it would b/c i figure the afm lets only the appropriate amount in anyway. there may be small leaks though where some of the silicon sleeves dont fit the greatest.), and changed o2 sensor.
I'm thinking next i'll try my luck after changing vaccum hoses, but i'd really like to hear some other things it may be.
BTW i've seen the NOx, HC, CO2 chart.

to test the air pump wouldnt i just unplug the hose from the tube that leads to the cat and feel for air? and how would i test the acv? and do you guys think the cat is just partially clogged and i should get a new one? (I don't think it has failed yet b/c the HC numbers aren't grossly high in the thousands or anything like some ive seen)
Thanks for the comments guys.

You really need to read the FUEL seciton of the online and free FSM.
Idle the car fully HOT. Pull the large hose off the bottom of the ACV. Little air should be coming out. Now pull the Blue plug off the Relief solenoid. Now a very large amount of air should be expelled. IF the amount of air coming out is the same, to me that would mean the Relief solenoid is not receiving the right signal from the ECU via the TPS or the vac tube for the relief solenoid valve TO the ACV is swapped with the hose for the Switching Solenoid AT the top of the ACV area.
In other words if the air from the air pump is being dumped overboard at the bottom of the ACV,then it isn't going to the EXAUST PORTS where it gets mixed with exaust gas (who'd a thought) and then sent on to the catalytic converter (s).
But if the ACV is working right, then it's possible the catalytic converter has had it's day and you need to pump some money into the car.

Bob-
Hailers has the ticket to diagnosing the ACV, but if you just need to pass, you can bypass the acv and hook the airpump direct.
BTW, if you know that the cat is over a couple of years old, you can be pretty sure that it is your main problem.
Here is a thread I started on passing emissions last year.
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...emission+texas
It contains copies of the test results for four different tests after performing various adjustments and diagnosis. The main thing to take away from this is that you can have a cat that you think works, but if it is a couple of years old, it is probably cooked. There is also a part number there for a universal cat that I obtained from Autozone for a reasonable price.
Good luck

First of all I want to thank you guys, esp. Hailers and jackschild, I've seen you guys around on the forum and as always you guys have given great advice. My ACV is functioning properly, so I guess it is my cat. I guess I'd better call up my welding friend. Maybe I'll even get some flanges welded on for a presilencer/muffler replacement for the next 364 days. BTW could someone tell me the I.D. of the stock exhaust?
Thanks again guys,
Bob
