Failed emissions again
Yep failed again and this time i had all the emissions crap on. Just finished installing a stock TII exaust that my freind was using on his TII. Also i had put in the ACV valve and an airpump in.
Here is what i failed for please help me ppl!!! I am getting so sick of dealing with this bs.
HC's- 3.81 Limit 2.00
CO's- 76.49 Limit 30.00
What can i do to lower these. Please check out my sig to see my mods. Im guessing im running too rich, but im not sure. I mean what is the diffrence between HC's and CO's?
Please help me out guys im really sick of dealing with this crap.
Peace

I like the idea one member had of rigging the ACV to dump all output to the split air pipe (make sure the relief solenoid is deenergized, and the switching solenoid is energized at all times, or you can remove the switching solenoid "plunger" on the ACV, and pull the relief solenoid connector off)...Something like that, anyway

I would agree that you're probably running rich, but you've got the S-AFC so you've got the right tool. I went through this several years ago here as well, took me 3 times for my first pass, tweaking the car just a little leaner each time (negative numbers in the AFC so that the computer thinks it's getting less air, and it sends less fuel accordingly). It's tricky though without some kind of wideband O2 to guide you, I bought the TechEdge unit, and although it's not perfect, it really makes the job a lot easier.
I didn't have to cut any one rpm point more than 13%, and most were -4 to -8%. In Wisconsin, you get 3 shots for free, so my first shot was based on my settings when I thought the cra drove good, and sounded correct to me. After failing, I leaned it out a little and re-ran. Failed again. Then I looked at how different the AFC settings were compared to how much my emissions changed, and made my final tweak for the 3rd run, that I passed. Unfortunately, here in Wisconsin they don't give you the numbers when you pass, just the word.
The other thing to try is running premium fuel and I installed the hot NGK plugs, the idea being that you want to maximize the combustion, I think HC's are largely tied to unburned fuel, but someone please correct me if I'm off here.
Sorry about the BS, but this is a somewhat modified 16 year old car..... they can be a bit tricky to get them to run properly. The one thing I've learned in owning rotaries over 15 years now is that they seems to be a narrow range where they sound good, and run clean according to the DOT. I've been surprised several times by a failure, the car seemed fine. Usually plugs, air filter, and premium fuel did it on my 1st gens.
Good luck!

or you can just pay someone off.
Ok so i should tweak the car with the S-AFC instead of that variable resistor right? How do i know how much to tweak it though?
Thanks.

I kept failing on HCs, we had similar values. When I took out my air pump, and ran an electric pump straight to the split air, I fast passed with HCs at .04 gpm, NOx aws .06
