F8L GTO's RE-Build Thread- 88 GXL LS1 Turbo-tons of pics! Video
So the rx has been leaking a serious amount of oil (.5 quart everytime i drive it). It got substantially worse after a serious beating dad and I did on it down Martin Rd one night.
So I found the leak, and its a steady drip out of the oil pan gasket on the front passenger corner. The underside of the car is completely coated in oil. The oil return was also leaking slightly but not enough to matter.
Sooooo since you can barely slide a folded paper towel in between the cross-member and the oil pan.....the motor has to come out to replace the gasket.
When it breaks, make it faster!
Basic info on the car:
1988 GXL originally maroon with blueish interior. Now Scion Metallic black with factory interior.
2002 LS1 block out of a Camaro SS, Forged Diamond pistons, Callies K1 steel rods, ARP rod bolts, head studs and main bolts, 317 cast heads (polished by me), 224/224 598/605 114lsa cam, Comp hardened pushrods and double valve springs, 60lb injectors and Walboro 255.
Custom front mounted single MPt-70 (Master Power), Tial 50mm WG, DSM 1g BOV, front mounted intercooler. Will be set at 13-14psi to achieve 600whp goal.
RaceTrans Built TH350 with full manual valve body.
TII rear end, and TII brakes all the way around.
Centerline forged drag wheels (looking for something different)..... Let me know
Anyways, here are some pics and a some info for my fellow rx7 owners to enjoy. The car does need some exterior attention, which is what I will focus on next after the motor is complete. Please comment on anything that gets your attention thats wrong with the car aesthetically. This is far from my first boosted LS motor, but it is my first RX7 and I am enjoying every minute of it!

This part is ridiculous.....It looks like this is where the aluminum shavings came from....Its been milled off. That part of the block does not serve a functional purpose...Anyone know why you would grind that down? Its under the valley cover....

Heres a few of the wiring."Mazdamaro" The dude left all of the mazda harness and didnt cut any of the camaro harness :scratchhead:
Most of the mazda harness is tucked by the brake booster
I got a little work done on the heads last night. Polished the chambers and worked a little on the intake. The CC's had some pretty rough casting. Only got one head done though.
Cleaned but not polished
Done with one

so you bought the rx with the ls swap aready done?
id say that part thats grinded down was most likely to help make the intake fit better but not 100%. is that the stock intake mani?
one more question. why the TH350? i know they are cheap and easy to come by and also really simple to repair once broken. but why not use the t56 i think it is. the same one thats in your GTO. i guess its prolly simpler to run the 600hp thru that than a 6 speed.

Th350 cheap, strong, simple and did i say cheap? It was already in the car. I want something with overdrive though. Im looking at a full manual 4L80 which comes in the HD trucks. They are bullet proof in stock form
I already have a T56 car as my daily. This will be a straight line car mostly. An auto+turbo will outrun a 6spd car with the same set up every day of the week in a drag race. If i cant find a good auto solution, then the car will get a 6spd. It will be more expensive also
