exhaust gasket ideas
Since all of the gaskets i buy are a freakin joke. burn out within like 3 days yes i have got aluminum ones. But i'm wondering what would take the exhaust gasket? I was thinkin of gettin a fairly good size chunk of asbestos? Gutting it into the formation of a gasket and using that any suggestions?
Thanks, Evan

asbestos is sandwhiched between the aluminum on those one you can get at the dealer, like 7 bucks a pop though, but what your describing should work good since asbestos has a high heat capacity, but I'd use a mask when taking those sucker off, and or puting them on, that stuff is extra bad for you..

A little absbesos never hurt anybody. I used to eat paint chips when I was a kid and I turned out fine [involuntary twitch].
Yeah, wear a mask when dealing with that stuff.

I had the similar problem with the Bonez Racepipe. The gaskets would always blow after a months usage. I found the flange found on the racepipe wasn't flat and warped. So I welded off the warped flange in return for a 6mm stainless steal flange. I haven't blown a gasket ever since.

Im not sure its blowing the gaskets in the first place, it mught just be leaking from a bad flange surface.
I just fixed my whole headache by getting a new manifold and mounting the catalytic conveter by itself first and tightning the bolts, and THEN connecting the y-pipe.
Made for a nice flat surface.

Just do it. Belive me it is so worth it end the end. I went through alot of exhaust gaskets and headaches form exhaust fumes like you. I finally took a forum members suggestion and just got my flange machined and a nice flat new manifold. No problems since.
