EXAUST too Loud

Im selling my '86 base to a guy that has to have the exaust quieted up ALOT. Heres my setup:

Headers
Pre-silencer
Single 3 1/2" pipe to a Stainless Steel Muffer (3.5" in/4.5" out)

Hes looking to spend 100-125 for a good muffler....but in the neighbor hood he lives in, it needs to be muffled alot. I can understand because with this setup it is extreamly loud.

Does anyone have a good idea of a muffler to buy or where to get one for around that price?

THANKS GUYS!

(all i need is just the muffler....not the whole cat-back)

I don't think one single muffler will help much... if you want it quitier you might have to put the stock manifold back on.

Talking LOL!

If it's too loud, then the kid shouldn't have it. I assume it's the same kid that was at the meet on Saturday... I think if he can't handle the sound, he'll also be less likely to keep it in top condition... I'd be concerned about Rexy's home, Ryan.. this kid doesn't seem to be the wankel that the rest of us are..

what quite exhaust????
what is wrong with the guy
is that not part of the fun of a RX-7 hearing that note of the exhaust at WOT.
and it just gets all the better with a header and presilencer.
I swear I just about crapped my pants after I took my car for a drive after I did that and I am still using the stock muffs

I say dont sell it to that guy. he does not deserve something like this.
keep it and fine a owner that will take care of your car

The kid lives where the noise would get him in trouble.
Ryan's exhaust has no muffler, ok there is a thing that looks like a muffler, but trust me, it don't muffle anything.
so a normal, or just above normal exhaust tone would be needed, not dead silence.

what brand of muffler do you have ? I want to replace the Y-pipe and dual mufflers to a straight pipe (2.5") to a ~$100 muffler (check EBAY)..

uhh... umm... ahh....
Loud exhaust is part of the whole rotary soul.. Even a stock one screaming at 7500 rpms sounds like a jet engine and will be plenty loud.... besides, if he likes how it drives, tell him that quiet exhaust will hinder performance... :p

i think that the 3.5" pipe that im running is probably a bit overkill...but i was going for horsepower only

Max7 already covered the issue about the noise and this kid...he cant have it in his neighborhood......must be nice to be rich

The kid LOVES my car.....i know that he will take care of it....i talked with him alot over the last week.....he seems like the perfect candidate for an rx7 fan We'll see what happens

Try the U-pipe. Good backpressure, too
