Anyone know how to take the cover off of the Evaporator?...I'm trying to repair my A/C and would like to make sure the Evap and drain are clean.

Just FYI: The online series five fsm has a section on the Heating and A/C and gives a blow by blow description of the removal and installation.

I THINK you have to remove the glove box and speakers then disconnect the return and pressure couplings in the engine bay first. Then unbolt the unit and remove from the car. Then remove the spring like devices from around the two halves of the unit and remove the bottom half. That's what I remember. If time allows I'll read the S5 FSM on this and get back to this.

You MIGHT be able to just remove the small spring clips holding the two halves together and drop that bottom half only. When I took mine apart I found a lot of leaves, hair, crud, muck in that box.

Damn....I was hoping I wouldn't have to drop the whole box out...I already tried removing the clips and trying to pull the cover but...no go. So I guess it's time to bite the bullet.

Oh well, I was gonna have to replace those O-Rings anyway.

Thanks man.

I don't think there is a easy way to reach those FRONT clips because of a lack of room. I've only had that evaporator out one time and I'm not looking at the car right now.

It SEEMS to me, if you got all the other clips off, and removed the bottom bolt that holds the assy in the car, that you might be able to wiggle/pull/tug in some manner to get that bottom cover off. Then again if your replacing something like the expansion valve then you might just as well disconnect both lines to it and pull the whole assy out because it'll just flat be easier to do it that way. Was in my case.

Like I said, I only did this one time and am not an expert at removing the thing. Wasn't that difficult to remove the whole thing imho.

any ideas for cleaning the drain? I tried cleaning the little drain tube, but it still doesn't drain that quickly at all. Still feels like there's a clog somewhere.
