Engine Torque Damper

Does anyone make these? I've seen some for the FD but none for the FC. I really need one!

Mazdatrix makes a strut tower bar with a engine torque brace addon.

Yeah, forgot about that. I think RB might also, but I dunno.

Get stiff engine mounts and it's not needed. A solid torque brace will add a bunch of NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness). The mounts won't necessarily add as much, depending on the style of course. I've got Mazda Comp mounts and they're quite civil and decently stiff.

Well, the RB brace mounts to the frame with rubber bushings.

soooo, their strut bar incorporates the engine torque bar. What if you already have an aftermarket strut bar brace??

i guess this dampener would be the next option...
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...orque+dampener

anyone know where to purchase something like this??

I couldn't find the one posted on RB's website... but it looks like they may still carry one according to http://www.mariahmotorsports.com/engine.htm#TORQUEBRACE

I just fabbed one using some 1/2" EMT tubing.
The ends were flattened & drilled.
It was easier/cheaper than high performance engine mounts.

It ran from the TMIC bolt sleeve to the strut mount.
The LIM & UIM are plenty strong enough for the TMIC connection point.
A short piece of fuel line on the stud threads under the strut mount nut isolated the the tube from the chassis.

Wow, I just looked at how old that picture was.
The torque brace was one of my first mods.
It was still working untill the crash.

The RB torque brace is in the Engine mods - external section.

Nice one SureShot!

Well, after some extensive searching, I think I will fabricate my own.
Here is a link to Racing Beat's torque brace:

Personally I'm not a big fan of the RB design and I know I could engineer something just as good and something a little more cosmetically appealing!

Big ups!

Actually, that isn't even what they look like anymore. IMO, then new design is even less appealing visually. I'll post a pic of it later.

I don't care what it looks like so long as it keeps my engine from vibrating. I do need to look into some stiffer engine and tranny mounts though as well.

If you get the competition mounts from mazdatrix itll pretty much take care of the engine movement. I got them and my engine barely moves at all, and thats with a pretty violent bouncing idle. Even at worst its barely noticable when it catches at the bottom of the bounce, where as the old mounts it was all over the place and the idle was a lot smoother.

Yeah, that's my issue, it has a violent idle, which could be fixed with a proper tune, but this is for a temporary fix I guess....

I think that these torque devices are intended to keep your motor from rotating under torque loads in order to minimize driveline twist. If you have vibration issues, it seems to me that they would exacerbate that problem, because they serve as another path to transmit vibrations to the chassis. One of those pictured in this thread looks like it incorporates a damper--that one might help, but I expect all the solid ones would make vibration problems worse.

I was merely using the vibration example to demonstrate that the comp mounts will keep the engine from moving so you wont need the torque brace. Its not the most practical way for most people, but he mentioned he was going to get new mounts.

I plan to get new mounts, a brace, and I'm trying like hell to get the engine idle and air/fuel issues sorted out.
