something is seriously wrong with your car. i suggest you figure out what it is before you drive it again. a giant fuel leak could literally kill you.

Yeah, 10 mpg is abnormally bad, unless you redline it litterally everywhere and only use the first 3 gears. The fuel filters and o2 sensor probably need to be replaced, plus the injectors probably need to be proffessionally cleaned, since its probably never been done. Is there anything obviously wrong with the car, like major lack or power or something?

I would think fixing whatever is causing your poor gas mileage would cost you less than swaping an engine.. because apparently you don't have any spare piston engines laying around to put in it.. so thats going to cost you $$ to buy one.. more $$ than ur losing to poor gas mileage. Depending on what v8 you drop in if that's the rout you go (seems to be most common). lol ur gas mileage could even stay the same as it is. but if you find your rotary has poor compression and needs a rebuild.. well that's another story and no cheap solution... i suggest finding out why its getting poor gas mileage first off.

I would agree that you need to find the reason you are getting such poor gas mileage. I typically get 18 to 20mpg and that's with the 4.3 rear end.

If he has that kind of money, sure.

As mentioned before: o2 sensor, all the filters, plugs, wires, and your cat is probably plugged to ****.
