the emissions are not the same. you will need to get a s5 t2 wirying harness or(splice your own ) . The MOP is different also and most people keep the 86 to 88 one because it is mechanical unlike the 89 to 91 which is electrical {and i am not sure on this but a s5 t2 ECU}

Dude,

I did an S5 swap in an EMISSIONS STATE, and still passed emissions. The S4 wiring harness and ECU can run an S5 motor.

Here is some good stuff from our favorite rotor eater, Kevin (I hate customers) Landers..

http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/series5swap.html

*edit*

I deviated from Kevins writeup in that I retained the emissions rack from the original series car, and just made it work with the S5 motor. With Kevins writeup, he recommends to dispense with the emissions (great advice, not always plausable).

Watch what you say.

A s5 Harness is not compatible with a S4 interior harness.

I have done this swap along with a NA -> TII conversion.

You need
AFM
Injectors
Throttle body
TPS
Wiring harness
ECU
BAC

Front cover on engine (or go premix and block off) The S5 OMP won't work without the S5 ECU.

to stay ALL S4

Your twin scroll will not work from the S4 and the boost solenoid from the S5 will not work.

Pretty much you are running it as a S4. It's just that you have a better turbo, manifolds, and higher compression rotors.

That's what I'll be running anyways.
If you want to use the S5 electronics then you will have to start comparing wiring diagrams so make the S5 ECU and EFI harness connect to the interioir harness.

ok so u say i need You need
AFM
Injectors
Throttle body
TPS
Wiring harness
ECU
BAC
all from what? my s4 engine? i was thinking to put complete s5 t2 w/turbo's, intercooler, injectors, etc. is it posible to just drop it in with s4 harness and ecu. thanks u y'all.

Yes, you keep these from the s4. Digi7ech said it best. There is no differance in the injectors, if you want to use them from the s5 you will need a resistor box (they are high impedance) everything else you listed, s5 engine, turbo and manifold, intercooler (i think) will work. I think the UIM of the s5 will work with the s4 TB also. As far as swapping the front cover, if you pre-mix and use the block off plate, you can avoid that also-

That's wrong.

The injectors are Oval High impedance injectors on S5's and on S4's they are either Square Low/ High impedance.

If you use the S5 injectors you need to cut the injector plugs off the S5 harness and splice them into your S4 harness.

To use low impedance injectors in a High impedance harness you need to wire in a 10ohm/10watt resistor for each plug(on either wire).

Also the injector notches will be different so you won't be able to accidentally plug high impedance into low imp and Vice Versa.

A low impedance injector will have a voltage of about 2.5 while high's are 12.5(around that)

--------------------------------------
A S4 TB will work fine on a S5 UIM. I'm doing it right now.
If your going to use manifolds just use all of one series. All S4 or all S5. It's a lot easier.

The Turbo exhaust manifolds are not swappable.
a S4 needs S4 and so on.

-------------------------------------
I didn't see that post about Kevin but he was nothing but helpful when I sent my engine to him.

Yeah i mixed up high/low impedance.

pre-mix ? sorry but this is all new to me. also will my s4 t2 fuel pump work with s5t2 engine? see i already have full 3inch custom exhaust with downpipe. i don't have s4t2 engine at all. bought the car with no engine or trany. still have ecu and harness in the car. so i want to buy s5t2 with trany(complete j-spec engine). will it bolt up to my 87 t2 body? and will it work with s4 ecu and harness? really sorry about these stupid questions, but i have no idea about these cars and any help is appriciated. thank you evryone. always good to know u guys r here to help.

pre-mix = mixing gas and 2-stroke oil. Usually 1 once per gallon of gas.

You in p-town..Va?
