Engine mounts?!

Ok, took my car to the shop last week to figure out if it was my u-joint or not. Ok, so it's not. They(mind you, it's a friend of mine's shop, mainly for rotaries, but other cars too) said I was missing mounts...

Ok.. me being dumbfounded and not mechincally inclined, what mounts are they talking about? Engine mounts? Transmission mounts? But if it were the transmission mounts.. wouldn't the tranmission fall out?

The transmission would not fall out, it is bolted to the back of your engine, which is supported by engine mounts. If you didn't have engine mounts, it would fall out of your car because the engine is way too heavy for the tranny mount to support on its own (It can't even support the tranny all the way when the engine is out of the car).

I don't understand what the situation is though, so I couldn't tell you what mounts they are referring to. If you explain what was wrong with your car I might be able to help you out.

Ok..

I posted a while about about everytime I go in reverse or start moving the car you'll here a loud "clunk" while taking off. I took it to the shop, and they said (my first dia.) wasnt the u-joint, but I was missing mounts.

Now.. if I had a pic of under my GXL, I could tell/show you in more details where abouts he meant...

Other than that, I am VERY confused and clueless..and really want to know what mounts he was speaking of.

Ah, good question.

When I set it in reverse, move, get outta reverse and hit it in 1st gear then move, you'll hear a clunk between those moves...

Now.. letting off the gas and getting back on, all it does is jerk a little.. but no clunk noises that I could tell/hear.

Definatly sounds like a broken front differential mount. I drove with a friend of mine and his was broke, that thing would thump in reverse/forward and would launch you sideways if you hit a bump
