Question Engine brake in question?

right now im getting a new engine put in my car
and when its done would delivering pizza be a good way to put km's on the car, or would driving the car constantly for 5-7 hours not be a good thing for braking in the engine???

I don't think an engine has "brakes"
Seriously though, it isn't good if you're always turning it on and off. If you are driving it near constanly and you rarely turn it off, it should be fine. Just remember to drive it really easy. I'd keep it under 3500, and under no circumstances should you take it over 4500.

Driving to deliver pizzas would actually be a good way to break it in, because of the fact that you will be doing alot of varied RPM driving which is much better than driving down a feeway where the RPM's stay constant.

I'll say you should be fine driving pizzas, but put maybe 100 or so miles on it first before you spend a whole day delivering. Also, make sure you can change the oil at about 500 miles.

i didn't say it was bad, just that you shouldn't shut it off all the time, like after a delivery. New engines like to flood too, so every time you shut it off it's a gamble.

Notice I posted that at the same time as you. I was responding to his questions, not your response.

hah, i did a search for "delivering pizzas" and didnt actually think i'd find anything....
my question has to do with how much people like delivering pizzas in their second gen (moreso, i'm trying to stay enough on topic not to get booted to the lounge). i'm very broke, a few days from starting my engine rebuild, then heading off for a 7-10 day trip in late august. i plan to put some miles on my car (probably past the 500 mile mark) before i were to try to get a job delivering pizzas, but i figure it would be a good way to make quick money. have you had luck delivering pizzas in your second gen and was the pay worth it? and, out of more curiosity, about what could it pay an hour?

Eh, on the topic of pizzas, just find a cheap $200 beater to drive around in for that. It's hard miles, and drunks are known to harass pizza delivery cars, at least in college towns. My parts hauler is an ex-pizza-delivery beater, and it's beat to death.

i hear ya, but i'm not too worried about the mileage or beating it (i guess i'd have to make that call after i've done it, though). i mean, its kinda a $2000 car as is (plus a few things, now an engine rebuild).
i dont want my car to be seen as a pizza delivery car. i thought about taking the thing off the top of my car and maybe putting it back on when i was returning after my last delivery. on that note, how do those things stay on and what do they do to avoid scratching your roof?
i just figured it would be a good way to get some good pay for a bit. i dont know about buying a $200 beater. honestly, thats just another car to park in the street, another car to register and inspect, and another insurance payment. not really worth it to deliver pizzas. moreso, i'd have to rely on that beater to last me. i'm not going that route.
