I was thinking, I live in SC and we dont have smog tests or anything like that...So who needs a cat?...would it cause me any problems if i take the thing off?

You can't exactly just take the cat off... you have to have something to replace it, like race pipe. Why don't you go for complete dp/mp/cat-back combo w/o no cat and just remove all the emissions stuff from your car if you don't have smog check?
