ECU Swap?

I have a 88 AE TII. The car has a R-tek 1.7 and is running a really rough. I want to put a stock ecu back in. So I am wondering if a 87 TII will work. I know that the injector imp. is different, but is there anything else? Will it work? Can I just put the low imp injectors in with the 87 ecu? Thanks for the help guys.

i'm not too sure on that issue. you should register on the 10AE list that we have here in the 2nd gen section. we're putting up the last 6 of our vin and we even have a set of sequencing vin numbers. its pretty neeat. i dont see why it wouldnt work. as long as you swapped out the injectors you shouldnt have a problem.

I am picking up the car tomorrow, so I will look into that AE list, sounds awesome. But I need to know about the ECU's. It has a Rtek and runs rough. And I don't have a 88 ECU. Only have a 87 from my old car. Thanks.

From what I understand the ECU doesn't care what IMP injectors you have, the resistor pack takes care of that. Is this correct?

I heard the same. But the 87 and 88 still have different ECU's. 332 and 333. Are they the same? Can they be interchanged?

yeah it could be vacuum leak, grounding, etc. Rtek just pulls some timing and leans out the secondary's.

My car runs like a pos with the rtek in the upper rpms. No vaccums leaks and i have gone over grounds numerus times, Tps is 100% good, fuel filter changed new plugs ,o2 sensor good. When I run the factory ecu it runs perfrect no hesitations what so ever. I've been trying to figure this out for a very long time. Only things I have left new plug wires, and run bigger ground wires. working on a year without being able to rev past 5k rpms.

I know that with the Rtek 1.7 ECU, you need to run 720cc secondary injectors. They require them. So if you still have the stock 550's...that could be the reason it runs like it does in higher rpms. The 1.7 also changes timing a bit and lowers the point where the secondaries come into play. I know they were selling Greddy injectors on ebay....2 720cc's for $140 for both. But if you are set on putting the stock ecu back in, the 332 and 333 are interchangeable....but i think that was stated above good luck

I have proper injectors and such, just wish i could figure this problem out. Timing only occurs over 9psi and i'm running 5 psi(hybrid).
