im trying to understand all that jumbled mess up there..... are you saying the driveshaft is unbolted from the differential? or is it seperated from the transmission? if its just unbolted, then its as simple as putting new bolts in.... replacing the whole driveshaft is pretty straight-forward also.... 4 bolts from the diff, and it slides out from the tranny..... depending on whether you have a stock exhaust, you might have to take it off at the y-pipe to get it fully out.....

Why the hell would it randomly be off though?

Having a driveshaft come off while it is parked would be the most crazy random thing I have ever seen.

Please post back and tell us what it is.

well i was driving on the way home from work and i notice my shifter bouncing up and down, i held it for it woudlnt be so violent. A couple blocks from my house it shifter froze and the wouldnt go into gear any more, so i got out and pushed it home. Yesterday was the first time i looked under it.

Sorry im a noob to rotarys i only understand how the engine works not the drivetrain. like i found a triangular piece that was broken off on the ground, and the drive shaft was just out i dont know if it broke or just come out. I think its disconnected from the transmission because its still connected to the back half of the car but not the front.

Well, I'd say something broke...'cause driveshafts don't just "come out"

Ah, the famous "asking how to fix something thats caused by a much bigger problem". Reminds me of PC tech support. I've had people ask me why the internet wasn't working when it turns out the telephone lines were down.
Anyway, I think your concern at the moment should be finding what happened to the tranny. Check the mounts for the tranny and motor, because I can't think of another reason for the drivesahft to come out.

The drivetrain is pretty much the same as those used with boingers. No real difference with any other car.

i was reading up on how to replace the driveshaft, and it lists symptoms of worn U-joints. My car has been vibrating before and i had gotten my wheels balanced and aligned but with no success with stopping it. If the U-joints broke would this cause the driveshaft to come out?

Yes.

Sorry I guess I should have said that broken Ujoints will let the driveshaft fall.
