DP heatshield RANT!!!!

what a piece of crap....

that is all.

i was in the mood to gut my cat's tonight on my S4 TII. I finished the one that the air pump feed's , (got every single thing out of that cat)...took about an hour to drop the cat, gut it, and bolt it back on.

then i wanted to gut the DP cat while i was at it.

got the 2 10mm bolts off the heat shield, that are bolted on top of the downpipe. then i tried to get the 2 bottom 10mm bolts that are on the side of the downpipe....no go....couldnt get enough leverage with any tool, couldnt cut the stupid bracket off that the stud is welded to...nothing!

how in the hell are you guys getting your stock downpipe heat shield off?

Shoooooooot these cars are so old that those bolts are prob only going to break off. Ask me how I know!

Try something like rust buster. Also are you expecting boost creep?

i am just going to cut the heat shield off.

my car has low miles, and none of the bolts are badly rusted. they are just in an akward position for me to get a tool on.

once the heat shield is off, the down pipe will come off easily.

i dont drive the car very often, and i wont be driving around in boost until i get my RB REVII, and a FCD in a few weeks.

A set of swivel sockets and a selection of extensions goes a long way.

If you cut the shield off, you will need to make a new one when you reinstall the parts anyway. If you don't, all rubber around that area will be baked in short order.

Might as well go a step further and port the wastegate. It has to be done sooner or later.
