Heatshield on the turbo

I put the down pipe last friday.

everything was ok but i broke 1 bolt on the heat shield on the turbo
I gusee I didn't take this heatshield(not onthe pre-cat on the turbo)
anyhow I broke bolt on the heatshield so I took the heatshield off.

Downpipe should lower the hood temp so I think it's not gona bake anything or is it?
I see lots single turbo 7s don't use heatshield anyways.

And do I have to put the bracket back on the transmission?
This custom down pipe has good fit on the flange but it doesn't
fit on the bracket and old O ring from Pre-cat.
Looks like this bracket is important because it takes engine movement.without bracket frange on the turbo take this stress.

this weekend i'm gona modify the braket..

Thanks.

I would try to keep any heat sheilding in place. It not only holds the heat in, but probably keeps any foreign matter, dirt, oil, WATER away from the turbo. I suspect that if you drove through a puddle you could possibly spray cold water on the hot turbos and do some damage. Maybe, maybe not, but I like to err on the side of safety. Unless removing it increases performance I usually leave factory equipment in place. Removing a heat shield doesn't increase performance and leaving it in place doesn't degrade performance.

Of course Singles (at least the ones I've seen) don't have any prefabbed heat shielding, but I have seen some with what looked like some type of shielding (be it insulating material like asbestos or whatever's used now, or something more reflective).

As far as the bracket on the DP goes, i would try to attach it some way. It's my assumption that in addition to helping deaden vibration, it also supports the weight of at least some of the exhaust system. And if you have the factory main cat in place that can be a lot of weight (35# i think, correct me if I'm wrong). All that weight hanging on the flange of the turbo, not to mention vibrating and flexing under normal driving conditions, could cause the flange on the DP, or turbo manifold, or even the fasteners to fail prematurely.

Good luck

Well actually I tried to put the heatshield back on allready.

but one bolt toatally broke off and half of bolt is still on the bolt
hole on the turbo and I know it's not gona be easy

I don't know why I took this thing off.
Any body took this heatshield off when putting the downpipe?

When I puitting it it looked really tight so I tried to make more room.

my brother got a down pipe and did not put the heat sheild back on and it seems ok but the thing is that he double or triple wraped the down pipe with thermotec heat wrap. i recommend this although you should be aware that the first 2 or 3 times you heat up the downpipe, the wrap smokes a lot like there is a fire. don't worry, it soppose to do that, just keep an eye on it for a while untill it stops.
