Downpipe question

I am getting a little lost on the terminology. What I want is a downpipe, that will connect to my existing cat (for now). What the heck is the "optional presilencer"? Does that replace the cat, or do I need to purchase that too?

Also, anyone know of good (ie cheap) places to purchase a downpipe?

Basically I need the description of a downpipe, midpipe, and presilencer.

I know its a noob question, but please bear with me.

Thanks in advance!!

downpipe goes from turbo to cat.

midpipe replaces cat with a straight piece of plain pipe

presilencer replaces cat, but has a presilencer instead of plain piping.

Right, except a pre-silencer doens't have to replace the cat. Lots of guys have systems with both because they need to keep the cat on for emissions reasons, and need a pre-silencer for noise control reasons.

A presilencer is basically just a mini striaght thru design muffler. Kind of just like a mini cherry bomb. Lowers the sound level of your exhaust, makes it slightly deeper, and doesn't really affect performance. (adds maybe 1 psi of backpressure)

No, but I got the parts. I cant for the life of me figure out why my car HAS to idle at 1500. So I am going to start some swaptronics. Power on style!!

Guys, thanks for answering my questions, and letting me off relatively easy.

You mean the item 16207? I bought that. With that and a K and N air filter and Walker Dyno Max cat back, I see 10psi. I'm using a stock ECU and a home made FCD.

I also have a wideband from EdgeTech. It shows the afr to be 11.2 at the highest at full boost up hill. I selected this somewhat restricted 16207 so I wouldn't have to buy a aftermarket ECU. I'm not out to spend the Hailers fortune on this car.

The reason I write the above, is that you may want to boost higher than 10psi. You sound like a power mad politician. humor. So I'd hate to see you buy the 16207 and expecting more than the above.

I'm even thinking of puttin my spare turbo engine in my n/a, taking the 16207 and putting it on the n/a, and buying the full three inch *****. Naaaa. Better stop thinking like that, too expensive.

There's times I wish I'd tried to put a turbo on a n/a like other people do. Sounds like fun.

Actually, 10 PSI was as high as I was planning on going. Seems like a good number that is reachable without taking out a second mortgage. And since my FC (GASP!) is my daily driver (although not my sole means of transportation), I dont want to push too much boost, and ruin my motor.

Power mad politician? Not really. Being a G.I. and all, right now I hate politicians...
